|
|
I was just finishing up a session in low stakes NL earlier this morning when I get QQ in the SB. I raise, the BB calls, one of the limpers folds, and the other comes over the top. I think to myself, "that's how I usually play AA in early position." I call and the BB folds.
There's a ragged flop and I'm feeling good because I've been pushing around the table for a while so I bet into the raiser. He comes back w/ another big raise and I know I'm in trouble. I fold and say nice hand.
Should I have folded after I put him on AA pre flop, or was it right to take a chance at flopping a set? |

I think I would have played it the same way pre-flop, but would have checked to the better after the flop. It may have given you some information on the strength of his hand. If the bet was reasonable (less than the pot) I would have seen the turn. QQ is a good hand with rags on the board.
This assumes you weren't playing with a newb... |

| I agree with the check on the flop. Say he has JJ or TT, he bets. Then you can re-raise him and find out what's what. |

| You were wrong. You need to follow your reads. Thats the problem I have. Many times have I had kings or queens and been able to put and opponent on aces....but then I call...and call...and lose lol. Its a great read, but if you don't use it that it is pointless. Once you put him on aces you need to be able to fold right away. I know its hard to do...but thats the 2nd and biggest step. You and I both know it is foolish calling hoping to trip up against a hand in which we are being totally dominated. |

What I THINK you should do when you heavily bet queens into rags is fold, as you did, when you get a strong raise. Over this last week I ignored my own advice twice ... on one occassion I was betting right into AA and on the other a set of fives (what doesn't get mentioned much in these ubiquitous high pair posts is how frequently your opponent out there is holding a set ... that seems to happen a lot, and they are much more dangerous on rag flops ... you can't see them).
So I congratulate you on folding |

YOU WERE IN THE SB
WHAT WERE THE BLINDS/ANTES
HOW MUCH WAS YOUR RAISE? HOW MUCH WAS HE RERAISE?
LOOK ONCE HE RERAISED YOU DID U RERAISE IF SO HOW MUCH?
IF HE CALLS OR U CALLED AND FLOPPED CAM OUT
745 ALL OFF SUIT YOU CAN CHECK AND THEN MOVE ALL IN
HE DID A STANDARD MOVE CALLED A CHIP SANWHICH
ONCE THE BB CALLED THERE WAS ENOUGH MONEY HE FELT TO
GET YOU AND THE BB TO FOLD SO HE CAN STEAL YOUR RAISE
AND BLINDS/ANTES
QQ YOU CANT FOLD THAT HAND AGAINST A SINGLE OPPENT
YOU MUST MOVE ALL IN IF HE CALLS AND HAS AA OR KK
THEN HEY THATS POKER BUT THE TURN AND THE RIVER ARE STILL TO COME |

Hello dear
I agree with the check on the flop. I wish I would have played it the way pre flop.but would have checked to the better after the flop. It may have given you some information on the strength of his hand. |
