We were playing a small tournament last night, and I heard some advice one player gave to another. It was "Call with a draw, but don't bet with a draw." Now am I stupid or is that ass backwards?
I have a lot more to say about it, but I wanna see what you guys say first. |

Whether to fold, call, or bet a draw depends on the situation, the game, the type of draw, and your table image.
If it is a big draw, like say in limit hold em where you have top pair and the nut-flush draw... then this is a strong hand.
If it is a weak draw, like an inside straight draw in no limit hold em... then you check or fold. |

We only play no-limit, I should have mentioned that.
We were talking specifically about a nut or next to nut flush draw too.
Either check with the intent to call a small and only a small bet, or bet yourself. If it's checked to me, I check. If it's bet big into me I fold. If I'm first I'd make a medium sized bet, and hope for them to fold or call. If re-raised I probably fold (depending on the player, size of the re-raise, size of the pot, ect).
There's definitely a lot of circumstances, but I just didn't like how the quote above was stated as fact. |

| It can't be answered. But it seems to me the adivce was being given to a newer player...in which case I agree. You want to see those cards, but cheaply. You don't wanth to jump into things like semi-bluffs, check-raise bluffs, folding your big money opportunitys cause they are mathmaitically incorrect etc, till you have at least a year or so under ones belt. |

IF THE PERSON WHO IS ON THE DRAW IS FIRST TO ACT..
AND IS ON A FLUSH DEAW AND ONLY A FLUSH DRAW HERE IS A TATIC THAT MANY PROS USE THAT NOT TO MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT OR UNDERSTAND IT BUT HERE IT GOES..
LETS SAY THERE IS 300 IN THE POT AND I AM ON THE FLUSH DRAW WITH ONE PERSON TO ACT BEHIND ME!!
I WILL BET 1/3 OF THE POT OR MAYBE 2/3 OF THE POT DEPDENDING ON THE PERSON BEHIND ME..IF THEY SHOW AGGRESION PREFLOP
AND POST FLOP.. I WILL MAXIMAISE THE BET TO 2/3 BECAUSE
HE WILL THINK YOUR A DORK AND JUST CALL SINCE HE FEELS HE HAS YOU BEAT AND THINKS YOUR DEAD MONEY!!
IF YOU HIT THE FLUSH!!! BET THE POT RIGHT OUT
IF YOU MISS THE FLUSH. CHECK HE BETS YOU FOLD!!
NOW YOUR PROABLY WONDERING WHY WOULDNT HE RERAISE ME?
WHEN I WAS ON THE DRAW ANSWER IS SIMPLE SOMETIMES HE WILL RERAISE AND FORCE YOU OUT OF A POT BY AN OVER BET CAUSE HE IS AFRAID OF A FLUSH..BUT SOME PLAYERS TEND TO JUST CALL
AND GO FROM THERE.
BY YOU TAKING THE LEAD IN BETTING YOUR NOT ONLY GETTING POT ODDZ YOUR MAKING HIM FEEL AS IF YOUR NOT ON A DRAW AND HAVE IT THE FLOP..CAUSE MOST UNEXPERIENCED POKER PLAYRES CHECK FOR FREE CARDS!!! |

| Well it's totally depends upon the situation, kind of draw and the game. So this is quite difficult to give you the answer. |
