I plan to go to Blackhawk/ Central City in the next couple of weeks. This will be my first time. I have heard that the maximum bet amounts are $5.00 for blackjack in all casinos. Is this true?

Do they alow smoking? My father-in- law likes to smoke a cigar when he gambles?

Thanks

$5.00 is the limit, but they get around it by allowing you to play multiple hands (mods correct me if I'm wrong). I've never done this, but usually people around me are playing about 3 hands at a time. Yes, they allow smoking everywhere pretty much.

Bevin is correct. You can double-down a $5.00 bet, things like that, to get around the $5.00 magic limit somewhat.

It still hurts "system" BJ players who like to bet LARGE when they get into a streak. No can do "BET LARGE".

Are there casinos that offer lower limit tables or is it all $5 min/max?

I heard that they might be increasing the limits (it's still $5). Is that true?

To answer both questions...

It's my understanding that there are $1 and $2 tables available, although I don't play BJ so can't say for sure.

Re: higher limits. Some casinos, particularly the big boys like Isle and Ameristar, are lobbying for raising the stakes. They make some good arguments - like a 5$ bet in 1990 (when this all started) is like a $3 bet today. Also, the theory that limited stakes will stop problem gamblers and citizens who "can't afford it" from losing too much is faulty. You can lose your house payment $5 at a time without much trouble. Also, the State-sponsored LOTTERY system has NO lIMITS - you could by $1000 worth of lotto tickets if you wanted to.

Stay tuned.

As long as we're talking about this -

As of July 2, 2009 - bet limits will be $100. And yes, you could play multiple hands (two seats at BJ or two slot machines) if you wanted to.

And NO smoking as allowed inside ANY casino except Wild Card in Black Hawk (they have a exception via a loophole in the law because they sell lots of tobacco).
