About a year ago, an employee told me that the Mountain High was getting a hotel added to it. Does anyone know how it is developing? I'd really be interested in staying there.

Hi Bevin -

Here's what I know....

Ameristar purchased Mountain High a while back (almost a year and a half now, I think) and started moving immediately on planning a major renovation that included a hotel.

They got into a little spat with the Gaming Commission (and all the other Black Hawk casinos, btw) about how to calculate "allowable gaming space" which delayed the final design for some time. That's another story, but in the end they lost.

Once that was over, however, the project could proceed and has done so with a vengance. The place is all messed up right now due to construction. Part of the construction is indeed a hotel.

So - it's coming. Hotel rooms typically have longer construction schedules than things like parking garages and such - so you'll need to be patient. If I had to guess at this point I'd look for a Fall 2006 or Spring 2007 opening at best.

There's a good description in their recent press release: http://www.ameristar.com/corp/c_aa_vew_prelease.asp?id=1080&catId=79&yearId=-1&cp=1. Sounds nice, but maybe pricey. Elsewhere on their web site they say it will be complete mid 2007.

It looks like a lot is changing at the casino so far. They put up a big advertisment screen up above the main entry and the parking garage is awesome. We found parking on the first level on a Saturday night. They also have pictures up of the image above showing what is in store for the hotel. I'm looking forward to it!
