Century Hotel and casino management abruptly FIRED general manager David Akers last week.
Word on the street is that it could have been for any number of reasons, but the clincher was the MASSIVE fines (as in almost $90,000) levied recently by the Division of Gaming against Century for operating illegal slot machines.
Rumors are that the Director at Gaming was so stunned by the blatant degree of non-compliance that he was looking for remedies beyond heavy fines, but because other casinos down in Black Hawk were also busted (on a smaller scale) for basically the same thing, BIG fines would have to do this time. Gaming has a "zero tolerance" policy on machine compliance.
Let's hope they (Century) doesn't get caught again - it could get really ugly.
