Hey Steve -

Why don'y ANY of the casinos in Black Hawk or Central City have an off track betting area? Horses or dogs or trotters or whatever. Seems like it would be a natural.

I was down at Red & Jerry's in Littleton (?) the other night and it was packed.

Hi there Mud -

What is a Mudshark, anyway?

You posed an interesting question. So I asked Don at the Gaming Division (he's a great help, btw) the same question.

He said - (in so many words) because the casinos don't want to.

There's no rule against it. The track operators do have limits on how many OTB sites they can have, but that's most likely not the problem. He also said The Gilpin (as best he can remember) tried it back in the 90's and it never got off the ground. Looks like there's just not enough money in it to give up very valuable gaming space.

Thanks Steve. I really wish they could do the whole SPORTS BOOK scene up there - I'm sure there would be "enough money in it" for the casinos to do it up right, don't ya think?

BTW, I get my username from a couple of Frank Zappa songs - one in particular where some groupies and a Mudshark get together - you better PM me for more info on that. This is a family web site, right? Wink Wink

Yeah, I remember that it was in the Pic-a-dilly or something if my memory serves me right.

I think the casinos would really notice a change in how often they were packed out if they paid attention to things people enjoy. Quality live music comes to mind, Off track betting, and of course bigger poker rooms.... I think that the increase in traffic on slower nights would outweight the negatives... but oh well. They just need to mix in a little culture between the slot machines.. Smile imho
